Best areas to stay in Playa.
Playacar
Best for: Resorts, families-meet-friends groups, golf-adjacent stays
Gated, manicured, golf course in the middle, beach on the south end. The right call when the group wants a hotel-resort base with concierge and 24-hour security, and when noise tolerance is low. Trade-off: you'll Uber or take the resort shuttle to Quinta every time you go out, and at 2am that's a $15 ride and a 12-minute wait.
Quinta Avenida Core (Calle 12 to Calle 28)
Best for: Bachelorettes, walkable group trips, first-time visitors
The reason most groups come to Playa over Tulum: you can walk to dinner, beach clubs, and bars in 5 to 10 minutes. The blocks between Calle 12 and Calle 28 are the sweet spot — energy without the worst of the cruise-ship daytime crowd. Pick a hotel suite or villa with rooftop access and a sound-tight bedroom for the bride.
North of Calle 38
Best for: Quieter villas, design-led hotels, longer stays
Where the boutique hotels and the prettier villas have moved as Quinta got noisier. Still walkable to Mamita's and the north beach club row, but a real Uber to dinner south of Calle 28. Best for groups of 8+ that want a villa pool and a quieter base, and don't mind a 10-minute ride into the action each night.
Playa del Secreto (just north of town)
Best for: Private villas, large groups, full-buyout weekends
A gated stretch of beachfront villas 15 minutes north of Playa proper. This is where the 12-bedroom buyouts live — the kind of villa that feels like a private resort, with staff, a chef, and a beach that's effectively yours. Trade-off: every meal in town is a 20-minute round trip. Worth it for the right group; wrong call for a 4-day bachelorette.
